Reports to:Elementary Principal
Education/Experience Required/Preferred:A four-year education degree is required. Master’s Degree in Education field and/or teaching credential is preferred.
Salary Range: $45,000 – $65,000 (The salary is the expected range and is dependent on candidate qualifications.)
General Responsibilities
This position provides classroom instruction to elementary school students. Each teacher at Village Christian School will incorporate into their teaching a worldview that is distinctly Christian and will also demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, thinking, and expression. It is also expected that each teacher will diligently work toward providing a CAREing, Christ-centered education producing students who thrive. Each classroom teacher is accountable to the Principal, and ultimately the Head of School.
Specific Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
- Use relevant and cutting-edge technology to develop relevant, real world learning experiences
- Be committed to expertise and growth in content and methodology
- Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments and provide appropriate feedback on work in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
- Prepare grade reports, progress reports, and attendance reports in accordance with school policy
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Be accessible to students, providing academic support, active listening, and advocacy, while observing appropriate boundaries
- Participate in school meetings, parent meetings, and evening events as assigned by the administration
- Willingly be involved in the VCS community outside of school hours
- Continue to grow as a professional by attending in-service professional development activities
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
- Be available to students and parents before and after school
- Execute all duties in a timely manner (holds class on time, meets deadlines, attends meetings on time, etc.)
- Maintain a ‘team player’ attitude and willingly collaborates with colleagues
- Maintain cordial, professional relationships with all students, staff, parents, and community members
- Attend class overnight trips, as assigned by administration
- Abide by the spirit and policies in the VCS Employee Handbook
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency

What You Will Do:
- Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college
- Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards and Aspire Instructional Guidelines
- Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs
- Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education
- Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school
- Actively participate in professional development activities, and work closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Multiple Subject Teaching Credential required
- 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred
- TK positions only – One of the following:
- Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- At least 24 units of college coursework completed in early childhood education, or child development, or both
- Professional experience in a classroom setting with TK students comparable to the 24 units of education described above (as determined by Aspire)
- Knowledge of subject matter, including State Standards and subject-specific frameworks
- Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
- Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
- Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices
